Who We Are

PATTON STEPHENS
Associate, The OCL Group

Patton Stephens
Joining OCL in the fall of 2008, I was able to combine three areas of work that I know and enjoy: leadership coaching, operations and project management, and writing. It wasn't long after that I realized, again, how grateful I am for my work. It stretches me to find creative ways to achieve results and, at times, requires me to make room for something new to emerge.

As a leadership coach, I work with leaders at all levels to help them reach high-impact goals in ways that facilitate long-lasting, internal change: a two-tiered approach that is the only combination that brings enduring success. My coaching engagements include: coaching leaders who are newly-promoted to the Senior Executive Service of the U.S. Federal Government; supporting technical experts who need to develop management and interpersonal skills; and helping numerous

Working with Patton Stephens has been a life changing experience for me, both professionally and personally. My company allowed me to hire Patton to address their concerns about my supervisory skills. As a result of my work with Patton, our human resources director recently told me that I've become the best manager in our organization…. Patton is a true coach, helping me to uncover underlying issues that affect my work (and life) and identify and implement practical solutions that use my strengths and compensate for my weaknesses. Patton's insights and abilities are unparalleled. Because of her, my career is thriving, but without all the stress I felt in the past.

leaders in various positions and organizations develop plans for sustainable work loads and strategies to achieve work-life balance, one of the most pressing challenges in the workplace today. My coaching work, above all, places me squarely inside the present moment, where real work actually begins.

I have worked as a Program Analyst for the U.S. Government, experience that is the foundation of my project management, analysis, and writing skills. I hold a Master of Public Administration degree and a Certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown University. I am certified in both executive coaching and emotional intelligence assessment and performance-based coaching. I have also taken professional writing courses at Georgetown University and the Writing Center in Bethesda, MD. Some areas of ongoing professional interest and study include somatic coaching techniques, positive psychology, adaptive leadership, and the Enneagram. I am also a member of the International Coaching Federation.

My clients have included Kaiser Associates; Transformation Systems Inc.; JBS International; the National Wildlife Federation; the Center for Science in the Public Interest; U.S. Government Accountability Office; the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Education, and Labor; and numerous individuals seeking Life Coaching outside their work environment.

My other loves include being with my two children and husband and being "project manager" for our family, spending time near our neighborhood creek and volunteering to keep it alive and well, writing and blogging poetic prose, and reading the poetry of Rumi.
