Who We Are

CHRISTIANE FRISCHMUTH
Associate, The OCL Group

Christiane Frischmuth
Growing up in Germany, then living and working all over the world, has taught me a lot about creating capacity to achieve the results we seek. Whether it is a healthy, fulfilling life, providing good leadership, or achieving the organization's mission, I believe these depend on a combination of integration and alignment, while acknowledging and respecting all forms of diversity. I have seen integration demonstrated and achieved in many different spheres: by leaders who step fully into their roles with awareness and acceptance of their strengths and weaknesses; by organizations which champion full participation, while celebrating diversity; by an entire district in Africa which brought together men and women, diverse tribes, and government agencies to foster collaboration and create a joint vision for a new future; and by a country which rebuilt itself after a civil war.

For over 20 years, I've supported leaders, organizations, districts, and countries through coaching, through technical advice to governments on strategy development, by designing and facilitating their change and learning processes, and by creating personal and leadership development experiences. My role is to build the capacity and to model the kind of behavior that enables new ways of living and working to emerge and be sustained. My aim is to be a partner throughout, especially when it is tough to sustain and increase change and when there is no single solution because of the complexity of the challenge.

I have an MA in Political Science from the George Washington University and a BA in International Relations from Hamilton College. I studied sociology, anthropology and political science in Germany, at Mainz University and was deeply influenced by my years as a student at the United World College of the Atlantic, which encourages holistic academic study based on a philosophy of social action and international understanding. I am an adjunct faculty member for the Gestalt International Study Center, Cape Cod and studied organization and systems development at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland.

In my work, I draw on a wide range of interventions, from story telling, emotional intelligence, and mind-body integration, to large systems intervention technologies such as Rapid Results Initiatives (Work-out), Future Search, Open Space, World Café and personal development instruments. A core of my practice is results-based leadership, creating and sustaining learning cultures and changing values and beliefs from expert to joint learner and competitive to partnership models. Most of my writing and conference addresses are about making change, participation and learning integral to the way we live and work.
